Made of Paper
Monica loves pretty words. Kat loves haunting puppets. Both of us love turning everyday things into magic.
We are making a haunted Valentine from dried leaves and bird bones and thrift-store spoons. We're committed to ideas that are homegrown, items that are handmade, and stories that are uniquely heartfelt.
If you've ever held your hand up to the light and looked at the shadow on the wall, this is for you. If you've loved someone too hard but not long enough, welcome. If you've held a feather and imagined Icarus falling from the sun, come in. There's hot soup on the stove.
Like any good stone soup, we know this will be more delicious and nourishing if you add your carrots and we can sit around the steaming bowls together. Thanks for tossing your coins into our chipped mug. The magic beans we buy will yield a forest with a canopy big enough for all of us to sit in its shade.
Liars and lovers, birds and stones, come along. We've got a tale to tell.

Because of Dragons
Some time into the quarantine of 2020, Monica Flory and I dreamt up a puppetry project we could collaborate on virtually. She wrote a beautiful little story about two sisters reminiscing about the pandemic some time after it is over, and her daughters provided the voice acting. I designed and built the cardboard puppets and sets, then filmed and puppeteered with occasional help from my husband and sons.
We are really interested in what kids' memories of 2020 will look like, especially how they will be shaped by their imaginations and our collective coping mechanisms. Made out of household materials and created in isolation with the assistance of our families, this is a short film both of and about an extraordinary period in our lives.
